A YOUNG man who went missing after going to the pub has been found dead at a cement quarry.

Daniel Stratford, 19, of Cowleaze, Chinnor, was discovered at the cement works, in Hill Road, on Wednesday morning.

The search started on Sunday after Daniel, an office furniture installer, failed to return home. He was last seen on Saturday night at the Golden Cross Pub in Saunderton.

A paramedic had to scale 60ft up a quarry face to get to Daniel's body which was found in a disused hut.

The discovery of his body ended three days of intensive searching by specialist police teams and the force helicopter.

Thames Valley Police said they are not treating the death as suspicious.

The emergency services were alerted at about 10.30am on Wednesday by a member of the public taking part in the search.

Ambulance crews could see down to the hut from the edge of the quarry but decided to approach it from below.

Helen Robinson, spokesman for Oxfordshire Ambulance Service, said: "The paramedics arrived not knowing if the person was dead or alive and they could not see the body properly as the hut was on a ledge 60ft up.

"One of our paramedics then had to climb alongside the side of the quarry to get into the hut."

The paramedic called out to the man to see if he needed any help but received no response. He then crawled along a ledge to get to the hut. When he got to the small building he found the man was already dead, said Ms Robinson.

The spokesman added: "He was dead and appeared to have been dead for some time."

A police spokesman told the Free Press: "We started the search as the family were very concerned and said it was out of character for Daniel to go missing".

Daniel leaves behind three sisters and two brothers.
